ALMOST TOUCHED

Short introduction

We have lived with COVID-19 for more than two years now. As the outbreak has revolutionised the life of almost every human being; people had to radically change their habits and adapt to circumstances they were not prepared for. Social distancing is in each and every part of our life now while we give a second thought before we touch anything. We missed being touched, we missed the feelings integrated with the sense of touch , such as aa very warm hug from your grandchildren that sparks happiness. This Final project aims to explore the feeling of being touched to restore it for the better by exploring the sense of touch in the exploration of space. To do so, the project uses air as a tool, and as a mediator between the user and the space.

My goal

Art & Design has the power to shape people’s lives and lead a change. It invites us to consider, ponder, reflect, participate, to respond. And it forms human experience by giving voice to thoughts and feelings. As designers, we have a very powerful tool for pointing out ever-changing circumstances of the world, leading to adaptations to the circumstances by raising the right questions and making invisible manners visible, unseen to be seen. This motivation holds an almost essential place in my heart on my journey to become a more well-rounded professional.

With this project I aim to reclaim the sense of touch by raising questions about the heightened desire for sensory touch in the covid days. It investigates deeper the qualities of feeling touched by bringing the elements of air as a tool to do so. The project looks closely at the elements of air, it's potential and what it offers for the embodiment of the almost touching experience. Therefore, in the project, space is not primarily presented here as an object with fixed boundaries, but as content: the air. The air here acts as a medium through which immaterial air can manifest itself as a variable aspect of space in fluid motion, promising variable aspects of space to be discovered..
