Language requirement

Language requirement for Dutch-taught bachelor’s programmes and associate degrees

To enrol in a Dutch-taught bachelor’s programme or associate degree at ArtEZ, you must have Dutch language skills at B2 level or higher (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR). There are several ways to show you meet this requirement.

When do you automatically meet our language requirement?

You automatically meet our language requirement if:

  • Dutch is your first language and the national language of the country you earned your school leaving certificate, or
  • You completed secondary education in Dutch and earned your school leaving certificate, or
  • You passed Dutch as a final examination subject at secondary school, or
  • You graduated from a Dutch-taught bachelor’s programme, associate degree or secondary vocational (MBO-4) programme.

Student Affairs will ask you to upload or email your school leaving or graduation certificate.

Certificate

You also meet the requirement if you have one of these certificates:

  • A certificate for all four parts of the State Exam Dutch as a Second Language (Nt2), programme II
  • A CNaVT ‘Educatief Startbekwaam (STRT) – B2 certificate

Student Affairs will ask you to upload or email your certificate. Other certificates are not accepted.
If you already have a certificate, make sure it’s valid before you start your programme.

Take your language test as soon as possible

If you need to take a language test, register early. This will help because:

  • Waiting times for test dates and result can be long, especially in the summer.
  • You’ll have time to resit the test if needed.
  • You’ll know sooner whether you can enrol in your programme.

You can meet the deadlines: 31 August for submitting proof of language skills, or 31 May if you need a residence permit to study at ArtEZ.

If you are dyslexic or have low vision, you may be able to request a modified test. Ask the language centre where you plan to take the test as soon as possible.
