The bachelor’s programme in Music Theatre is the place for independently minded musicians and composers with an interest in theatre making, as well as theatre makers with a strong musical drive.
Our programme is the only degree programme in the Netherlands dedicated to experimental music theatre. It is designed for independently minded musicians and composers who want to make theatre, and for theatre makers who want to make music. You will learn how to create contemporary music theatre, devise your own concepts and explore the possibilities of new technology onstage.
Whether you compose, write and create your own music theatre works or simply love being onstage, you will have the chance to complete internships with renowned artistic companies and perform at well-known festivals. You will combine creating, performing and coaching in your professional practice, giving shape to your own signature artistry.
Are you a theatre-maker who wants to music to have a central focus in your work? In the Music Theatre programme, you can choose specialisations such as an instrument, composition or voice. In addition, all Music Theatre students take classes in acting, movement, singing, piano and combined theory/history. You will gain a deeper understanding of the world around you through critical reflection in subjects such as philosophy, and you will learn to harness this insight in your creative process.
