A psyhical release
Sam came up with an alternative: a scream booth. Designed to give space to what has built up to what is bottled up inside. “I think it’s a shame that we hold onto stress without physically releasing it. I wanted to explore how we could do that differently.”
The scream booth is the result of a research into relaxation in a world where digitalisation and technology seem to dominate. Screens and media consumption are everywhere. Sam’s finals work raises questions about the way we currently deal with stress.
It is visibile in the design: the scream booth is an object that invites action. You plant your feet firmly, tense your body, and then it’s just a matter of pushing and screaming.

Where do you stand as a designer?
During her bachelor in Interior Architecture, Sam learned not just how to design, but also how to reflect. “At art school, we explore what we want as a designer and what we stand for in society.” For Sam, that meant letting go of fixed ideas and trying many things out. Her process included dozens of models and prototypes. The first version barely resembles the one she has now.
“Sometimes I'm even working on it in the shower.”
When it finally clicks
Sam is working on a design that’s still developing but already works. “When the design finally matches what I had in mind… that’s almost magical.”
The scream booth is an invitation to let go. Scream it all out!
