SPOTTED: Classical Music students win prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours

Between 12 and 14 March, the eastern regional final of the Prinses Christina Concours 2021 was held. Due to the pandemic, this classical music competition went online: participating musicians were asked to send in a video of their performances. Classical Music students Aaike Nortier and Silvan van den Boom came away with some great prizes.

Double awards for ArtEZ students

Aaike Nortier won the Audience Award at the competition (with nearly 300 votes!) for her vocal performance. She also won 2nd prize in her category ‘music academy student aged 15 to 19’ (no 1st or 3rd prize was awarded in this category) plus the Masterclass Prize: a lesson with a Dutch musician of her choice, provided by the Friends of the Prinses Christina Concours Foundation.

Silvan won
Silvan van den Boom won the Incentive Award and the Donemus Award.

Silvan van den Boom gave a fabulous saxophone performance to win the Incentive Award in the same category. He also won the Donemus Award for an exceptional interpretation of a Dutch composition.

Like all the other winners, both Aaike and Silvan also win the Academy Award: a development pathway combining workshops with performing experience at various venues in the Netherlands.
