Yuanyuan creates environments that are slightly surreal and subtly violent, in response to childhood memories and observed situations. Through mixed-media installations, she conveys a sense of unattainable frustration, like a lucid dream stuck in a stalemate, in which objects undermine themselves in their quest for victory. Growing up under constant surveillance during her school years, combined with repeated upheavals in her family life, has shaped her understanding of obedience, discipline, and vulnerability. Rather than resolving these experiences, her works hold onto their tension. At the same time, she approaches the exhibition space as a stage or playing field, where the rules seem rigid but the outcomes remain uncertain, creating room for hope. Within this framework, she reflects on the difficulty of resisting established structures, and on the often futile, repetitive nature of struggle, in which resistance and failure coexist.
