Earthing Bodies

In a time where we are confronted with the possibility of mass global soil erosion by 2050, the work earthing Bodies investigates how to make soil a tangible part of our lives. Reflecting on our current ecological disconnection, the work questions if this can be attributed to the loss of traditional feminine knowledge under patriarchal structures.

In a multisensory installation Celine transforms the conversations with Lettice Hicks, researcher in soil microbial ecology, into a narrative in which we can experience the bodies of soil, and how we can relate with our own human bodies to them. Through using feminine attributed forms of knowledge gathering, the work aims to creating a living archive of soil. Sculptures of mycelium grow around a microbial community of screens, whose voices are unveiled by sound artist William Langstone [1] . The visitor is invited in the journey from macro to micro, by cycling through the chapters Compost, Growth and Humus.
