Snippets of Importance

A quick daily news check: an endless scroll of information about the world around us that disappears beyond the boundaries of our phones. We can't be everywhere at once in today's fast-paced world, which is why we tend to scale the information we consume. But at the same time this affects how we analyze, read and view the world around us.

As a designer, I feel responsible for stimulating a story on a large scale, but I also want to challenge each individual to take responsibility for determining his/her own scale as an opportunity to debate and create a personal view of the world.

Snippets of Importance visualizes a parallel world of the time, effort, and attention we dedicate to daily news on our phones. A printing technique that interacts with the scrolling attitude of each participant reading a news article, influences the hierarchy and thereby identifies key fragments, visualizing your own scale of importance.

About Karlijn Drexhage

Karlijn Drexhage (1998) is a graphic design graduate with a focus on human-oriented design. As a designer, she feels responsible to use her qualities to play a role in mediating relationships between people in time and space. She seeks to use design and design technologies in her practice with the philosophy of considering values of others to create awareness for movements in society, economics and geopolitics. Asking how we can use those values to positively transform the future and make the world around us a better place. She will further develop this attitude from academic year 2021 with the bachelor: Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology. She is therefore curious and looking forward to discover how the design practice will find its way back to her in the future.
