Fortune

A coin pusher is designed completely to make you spend as much money as possible. There is an interesting parallel with how internet algorithms are designed. They both work with small rewards based on senses. So in the case of a coin pusher, you throw in a coin and you are rewarded with sounds, lights and the possibility of a prize. However an internet algorithm does not want coins, it wants your data. With this data the algorithm gets to know you and tries to show you content, people and/or ad's that you hopefully like, with the possibility of a little bit of dopamine. Fortune is a machine where these two worlds meet. Fortune is a machine full of inspirational fortunes. Throw in a coin and if you're lucky you receive a personal fortune in return.

Brigit van Eijk (1997) is a graphic designer who has a light-hearted approach to design. Making her work approachable to people outside of the design field is found to be of great importance to her. She believes a graphic designer should act as a bridge between theory and design. Brigit tries to achieve this by playfully dealing with the subject manner, both visually and conceptually. However, there is always a critical note in her work.
