Solar Observatory - White Light Sunspot Observations
For over 400 years, scientists and amateur watchers have been tracking the dark spots that appear, sometimes frequently, sometimes abundantly, on the sun. These spots, namely sunspots, are caused by our star’s turbulently rotating magnetic field. The installation ‘Solar Observatory - White Light Sunspot Observations’ (stationed sometimes in the canteen of the Rietveld building and other times just around the corner outside) is a make-shift observatory that can host three sunspotters at a time to perform solar observations. Twice a day, the audience can take part in these observations, where the act of observing becomes a reflection inward as much as it is outward.
