Doetinchem was buzzing with celebrations for King's Day 2025, which saw the Royal Family visit the town. To round off the day, Dutch broadcaster NPO aired the King's Day Concert live from the theatre Amphion. A highlight of the programme was Emma Luca, an alumnus of the Jazz & Pop bachelor's programme at ArtEZ Academy of Music in Arnhem.

Emma Luca (real name Emma Lukassen) performed her own track, "Illusie," the very song that won her the Regional Song Festival last year. The singer, described as a major rising star, was accompanied by the ensemble Pynarello.

Emma Luca's musical journey

A native of Doetinchem herself, Emma's musical adventure began at the Preparatory Course at the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Arnhem. There she got a real taste for it and went on to study the bachelor's programme Jazz & Pop. She graduated in 2020.

According to Emma's website, she met loads of new people during her studies – talented musicians who are now her close friends and form the four-piece band behind Emma Luca. The band is led by Wies Knipping, who graduated from the same programme in 2022.
