The six-minute film, a creative collaboration between Jort and his fellow students Ilse Lenstra and Robby Hoesenie, tells the story of an ostracised alien conspiracy theorist and a curious student who bond over a shared conspiracy involving their music teacher, Perry Koehoorn, whom they suspect to be an alien. The team, 'Peepeepoopoo,' founded by Jort, Ilse, and Robby, not only won the Best Film award but also received numerous other prizes and nominations, including 'Best Directing' for Jort.

From brainstorm and concept to nominations and awards

The process began with a brainstorming session from which a strong concept emerged. Jort, Ilse, and Robby then wrote scenes for an original screenplay, which won an award for its theatrical potential. Shanel Beumer won the 'Best Costume Design' award for her costume designs, and AJ Soeliman (a student of Interior Architecture) was also recognised for hair and makeup design. Actors Ilse Lenstra, Nienke van der Ploeg, and Sijmen de Jong received a nomination for 'Best Acting Ensemble' for their impressive performances.

Additionally, cinematographer Mats van der Weerd and gaffer Jasper Drouven were nominated for 'Best Cinematography.' Set designer Thijn Kolk received a nomination for 'Best Visual Effects.' The editing, done by Jort with support from the crew, also won an award. Steven Tiggelman, one of the crew members, composed the extraterrestrial film music within the 48-hour timeframe. Producer Frank Wever received the 'Unsung Hero' award for his role as production leader.

We were thrilled with the film and found it incredibly strong in every aspect. From the original script with plenty of humour to the excellent directorial choices, strong performances, costumes, and design.”
The jury, consisting of Niels Bourgonje, Paul Bontenbal, and Frederike Scheffer

48 Hour Film Project

The 48 Hour Film Project is an international concept where teams must write, film and edit a film within 48 hours based on given elements such as a genre, character, phrase and object. The winning films from participating cities around the world compete against each other at the global festival 'Filmapalooza' in Seattle. The best 10 films ultimately get to go to the Cannes Film Festival.
