MediaMusic graduate Babs wins Pop Prize Overijssel

An artist with a mission

2022 was a successful year for Babs, an artist with a mission. As a female producer and rapper, she playfully counters a male-dominated pop sector. You can hear a clear theme in her songs, and in the past year, Babs has managed to firmly establish herself in the Dutch music sector.

Pop Prize

The artist could not attend the award ceremony in person, but via a video message the prize was warmly received. Besides the title, Babs also wins a sculpture, made in collaboration with ArtEZ AKI Academy for Art & Design in Enschede, and a sum of €1,500 to spend on artistic development.

The Pop Prize is an appreciation for achievements in the past year and contribution to the visibility of Overijssel pop music. Therefore, we would also like to mention the other two contenders, Silke Veld and (Martijn) Naber, who have also produced some great work.

Booster Festival

The presentation of the Pop Awards Overijssel took place during the Booster Festival on 1 April in the centre of Enschede. Booster connect the creative music industry through workshops, seminars, panels and feedback sessions and the free showcase festival in the evening. Over 500 musicians and music professionals attended the conference programme.

Poppunt Overijssel

Poppunt Overijssel is a network organisation for pop music in Overijssel and stems from an intensive collaboration of the Overijssel pop venues Hedon, Metropool & Burgerweeshuis. Poppunt Overijssel is committed to improving the visibility of Overijssel pop music in the Netherlands and achieves this by supporting various organisations and organising a number of its own projects.
