Performing during Sunday primetime on national television: on 13 February, that became reality for Classical Music students Sanne Bakker (2nd year) and Sara van den Brink (4th year). During the NTR radio program Podium Witteman, broadcast on NPO2, the harp duo performed “Pantomime” by the French composer Carlos Salzedo.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Sanne&Sara, harp duo and ArtEZ students, on Podium Witteman

On his Podium Witteman program, host Paul Witteman highlights and promotes "new heroes" of the music field. On 13 February, those new heroes were Sanne and Sara. They played the last movement from the Pentacle Suite by Carlos Salzedo, “Pantomime”. Click here to watch their performance. They also filmed the preparation process for their performance with Paul’s Young Heroes Cam. You can watch that clip here.

Their partnership

The entire broadcast of this episode (Season 11 Ep. 7) of Podium Witteman is available here. Beginning at 04:00, you can watch the interview with Sanne and Sara, where they discuss their friendship, their differences, and of course their repertoire. Sanne: "We are always looking for ways to bring modern repertoire to our audiences and make it more accessible, either through a story, using elements of theatre, or by incorporating movement while we’re playing."

The whole experience was quite fun, from the blocking in the dress rehearsal and going to hair & makeup to the broadcast itself and the dinner afterwards. It's interesting to go behind the scenes on a TV broadcast set like this one and to actually be part of a broadcast as well. We could get used to this!
