Dance

Do you want to study dance? Dance is your language. Your body tells stories, explores form, and relates to the world around you. At ArtEZ University of the Arts, you study dance at higher professional education (hbo) level and develop yourself as a dancer, maker, and dance artist. You work with your body as an instrument and combine technique and training with creation, experimentation, and personal expression. You learn to perform, create, and present your work in a variety of contexts.

Would a dance programme suit you?

A dance programme is right for you if you:

  • feel movement as a necessity and dance plays a central role in your life;
  • want to develop yourself physically and artistically;
  • want to perform, create, or teach;
  • are curious about how dance relates to other disciplines and the world around you;
  • want to explore what dance can mean within a broader social context.

Where do graduates work?

After completing a dance programme at ArtEZ University of the Arts, graduates often develop their own professional practice within the field of dance. For example, they work as:

  • dancers or performers in productions and projects;
  • makers of their own choreographies or performances;
  • dance teachers or educators in education or the cultural sector;
  • creators or facilitators in social or educational projects.

They work within the performing arts, education, and other creative or social contexts.

Why study dance at ArtEZ?

Develop as a dancer, maker, and educator

ArtEZ is the only dance academy in the Netherlands where you can train as a Dance Artist or Artist Educator in Dance. You learn how to perform, create, direct, and teach, while developing a broad perspective on the dance field.

Develop your own artistic voice in contemporary dance

You work within a contemporary dance practice where creating and performing come together. As a dance artist, you develop your own style and artistic vision, and learn to create work that goes beyond performance alone.

Connect dance to other disciplines and the world around you

You collaborate with students from other art disciplines and explore how dance relates to social and cultural issues. In this way, you discover the role you want to play within the dance field and beyond.
