If you are staying in the Netherlands, you must arrange proper health insurance.
The Netherlands has excellent healthcare, but medical costs are very high without insurance. By Dutch law, everyone living or staying in the Netherlands must have health insurance. If you are uninsured, you risk a heavy fine.
It is therefore mandatory for all ArtEZ students to have health insurance while studying in the Netherlands.
If you are from the EU (including Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein), you probably already have health insurance in your home country.
If your home-country insurance does not provide sufficient coverage, you can apply for Aon Student Insurance. Coverage includes medical expenses, liability and theft. You can apply directly on the Aonwebsite.
Please note: Aon Student Insurance is not valid if you plan to work alongside your studies in the Netherlands.
Even if you keep your home-country insurance, we strongly recommend adding the Aon Student Insurance student package, which covers extra costs such as liability, home contents and baggage, accidents and legal aid.
Watch this video about Aon Student Insurance.
If you are a non-EU student at ArtEZ, you will automatically receive Aon Student Insurance for the first year of your studies (or a shorter period if you stay is less than a year). The fee is included in your financial guarantee.
After the first year, you are responsible for renewing and paying for your own insurance. The recommended policy is Aon ICS Complete+, a package designed for international students. See the Aon website for full details.
If you cause an accident that injures someone or damages property, you are responsible for all costs. This could include breaking something in your room or even causing a traffic accident.
Such costs can be very high. We strongly advise you to take out a good liability insurance policy, which will usually cover these expenses.
