‘Push & Pull’ is a book that combines portraits and personal stories to explore the vulnerable experiences of pole dancers. Through practising pole dancing for over a year and a half now, I came to understand it as a multifaceted and liminal space, through which one can redefine or/and reclaim their own identity. To reflect this complexity, I interviewed and photographed five pole dancers from my community in Arnhem and beyond. Through these diverse testimonies, the project aims to foster empathy, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of pole dancing as a nuanced form of personal expression.
