Shannon 't Lam is a visual artist with a deep love and passion for nature. Unusual plants, but also very small, inconspicuous organisms, receive her undivided attention. Shannon's work is an ode to the Creator of all, through whom everything came into being.
Shannon's thesis and graduation project revolve around the same theme: visualising the polder landscape. The polder is her home base, her familiar surroundings. In her thesis, she conducts field research into the techniques and materials used by the artists of De Ploeg. This artist collective, founded in 1918, made the expansive Groningen landscape a key subject of their art. Shannon brings together the works she created during her research in a colourful exhibition, the format of which is based on the principles of existing visitor centres at nature parks, but entirely in her own unique way.
Shannon strives to create work that is recognisable, yet simultaneously remains a bit mysterious to the viewer. She achieves this by alternating figurative and abstract elements in her sculptures. This gives her considerable freedom as a creator and leaves room for the viewer's imagination. By playing with shapes and surfaces, she seeks a balance between abstraction and familiarity.
