Roos Vonk is an illustrator who brings stories to life with images. During her studies, she discovered not only her own signature style but also how to make personal and social themes accessible through illustration and animation.

Travelling plays a major role in her work. In Indonesia, she searched for her Javanese grandmother's roots and discovered how important food is within her family and in her own life. Her most profound journey was an inner one: a confronting path to an eating disorder and a quest for recovery. In her thesis, "Ideaal," Roos examines the ideal image she strives for and how this is reflected in different cultures worldwide. Travelling to these far-off countries has taught me a lot. About my origins, about cultures, and what the people are like. What they eat, what moves them, and what they are proud of.

Her graduation project consists of a table setting, with texts and illustrations on the tableware and tablecloth. What at first glance appears to be a cosy table reveals—upon closer inspection—the stress and panic of someone struggling with an eating disorder. By depicting her own struggle, she aims to raise awareness, offer recognition, and open up conversation.

Her minimalist illustrations are humorous and imaginative, prioritising emotion and atmosphere over realism. They are honest, layered, and personal, depicting the search for home, balance, and self.
