Noa Vlijtig

I am a dancer/artist/girl at heart who works from curiosity, embodiment, and interdisciplinary exploration. My practice is grounded in movement but extends into sound, installation, film, and research. I value process over outcome and believe artistic growth comes through experimentation, reflection, and staying open to uncertainty.

I want to continue developing as an independent artist while pursuing higher education in the arts in the future. Before returning to an academic setting, I want to spend time outside institutional structures to strengthen my artistic voice, deepen my practice, and build a sustainable career that balances artistic work and everyday life.

I find inspiration in everyday experiences, brisk walking, somatic practices, travel, conversations, exhibitions, interdisciplinary collaboration, women, joy, but most of all courage through openness and sheer dumb optimism.

My entire year functioned as a freelance, practice-based internship in which I operated as a self-employed artist across different contexts, rather than within a single fixed placement. I worked in a range of environments such as exhibitions, collaborations, residencies, performance projects and exchange. This includes hosting and engaging audiences in spaces like the Emerging Exits exhibition, as well as participating in interdisciplinary projects and collaborations with other artists in residency at het Resort, FSL and the UCAL Belfast project. This year taught me how to operate as an independent artist: balancing creation, administration, collaboration, and reflection, while slowly forming a clearer understanding of what i want my own artistic position to be.
