‘Vogelvrij’ explores themes such as mental exhaustion, pressure to achieve, alienation and the constant struggle with time in a society that is always in motion. From a nocturnal wander through a petrified urban environment emerges a story about isolation, shame, overstimulation and meaning in a world that seems to be getting more efficient and harsh. This work is focused on the tension between human and system, rest and productivity, nature and control, life and its worth. It explores how digital stimuli, societal expectations and the constant ‘carry on’ influence the experience of one’s own body, identity and existing.
