if you look closely, everything can become a jump

2025

Springs are inviting your feet to leave the ground. With every jump, a print takes shape beneath you. Marloes is interested in the artistic process itself. She aims to dissolve the distance between artist, visitor, and object, encouraging participation. Using the exhibition space as a site for experimentation, she transforms visitors’ jumps into a printing press. As people jump, balance and textures are explored. The pressure of their movements results in unexpected prints that document time and motion.

Marloes is a collector of things that spark her imagination. She’s drawn to things like wheels, plastic packaging, tubes, a recording of a windshield wiper, mattress springs and broken umbrellas. These found elements become the building blocks of her work, reappearing in collages and assemblages across sculptures, videos, installations, and prints. For Marloes, play is at the heart of the creative process. She plays by experimenting, jumping, standing upside down, building, printing, and editing. By inviting others into her work through participation and interaction, she hopes to share the joy of making.

Her installations are translations of the world around us. Rooted in material-based research, her practice investigates the textures, shapes, and movements of everyday things. In a poetic and often unexpected way, objects and forms begin to weave into one another, shifting their meanings and associations. Through this, Marloes hopes to spark renewed curiosity and wonder for the overlooked and the ordinary.

Artist statement

Marloes creates playful installations inspired by a fascination of textures, movements, and forms of materials from her surroundings. Her practice is rooted in an exploration of play, jumping, and the act of making itself. Working with video, textiles, and analogue print techniques, she builds installations that invite visitors to participate and play within the work.
