De Kleine Pit (The Little Pit) is a coming-of-age story in which a young girl named Lizbell travels through a mysterious world. She is not taken seriously by her peers, so her mother suggests that she go and pick some apples as a distraction. When she crashes into a wall in an alley, she suddenly finds herself in another world. Here she encounters all kinds of setbacks, struggling to control her emotions. The world is a metaphor for what is going on in Lizbell's head, with all her insecurities and feelings, in which anger and sadness play the leading role. These feelings are reinforced by the colourful style with Ecoline. The comic has an accessible style in which images play a dominant role.
She encounters fear, sadness, anger and disappointment. Despite everything, she remains courageous. Lizbell wants to be able to do so much, but first she has to face everything in order to achieve her goal.
That even if you live in a rotten apple, you can always be a seed that can grow and blossom into something new.
