“Creativity requires boredom.”

Who are you as a teacher and creator?

As a teacher:

I believe it's important that in an art form like theatre, you can express not only your energy but also your feelings. Not just through words, but also through your body and images. I'm very involved in making art and learning environments more inclusive for neurodiverse people. Neurodiversity is about a diversity of perception and, therefore, about a diversity of feeling, thinking, and learning. I'm constantly searching for new and different ways to appeal to different senses and thus different ways of perceiving, learning, and thinking. Because of this, I often enjoy working with different disciplines. I like to see myself as an ambassador for my profession; I encourage others to engage with art and theatre in different ways. Not just as performers, but also as writers or as viewers!

As a creator:

I enjoy creating based on true stories. In a world full of stories waiting to be told, I see no need to invent new ones. My work is honest, vulnerable, and critical, just like myself. As a creator, I have a great love for silence, while as a human being, I don't handle it well at all. I wear my heart on my sleeve, in my work, in my creation, and in my being.

I'm always looking for installations that make the audience part of the set and thus involve them in the story of the performance. Design is at least as important as play in my creation.

What are your ambitions and desires for the future?

My current dream is to curate an exhibition for children in a museum, including an educational programme. I still have so much to explore. Locations where I want to create a performance, such as an indoor playground. Target groups I want to work with, such as.......Materials I want to learn to work with, such as wood and textiles. Boundaries to explore, for example, between theatre and journalism. Jobs to explore, for example, as a programmer. Lessons to teach, for example, about teaching.

I have a world to discover, but especially how I change it. I'd love to curate an exhibition for children in a museum someday, including an educational programme, of course.

"What is the role of the narrator in contemporary (documentary) theater?"

Tell us something about your research.

During the casting process at the youth theatre school, my theatre teacher used to talk about "the one who delivered a letter to the king." This letter deliverer had a seemingly minor role, but the performance had the audience on the edge of their seats all evening, waiting for another letter to be delivered to the king. Through all the performances I've seen at, with, and by ArtEZ, I realised that I often spend an entire performance on the edge of my seat waiting for the omniscient narrator. For the narrator who, through the poetry of retrospection, shares their feelings, thoughts, and acquired wisdom.
