Lisia Leurdijk

Lisia writes for, to, and with the people, other animals, and plants in her environment—the more biodiverse, the better. As a multidisciplinary artist, she wants to use empathetic imagination to learn to listen to the animal languages she doesn't speak herself. Now she has to pause writing to pet Bobbi, the cat she lives with. In her artistic research, Lisia discovers that she can know what it's like to be a cat. For Iep, the main character in her graduation project, it's quite natural that people can empathise with other animals.

When Iep is the world

Through Iep's changing body, the world is something between air and earth, prose and poetry, inside and outside, fluttering elm and water—no, not water. Iep speaks the language of the forest and of all kinds of animals, from mice to dunnocks. She moves to the peculiar ecosystem of the city and tries to find a home there, until the animals in Iep merge and everyone reintegrates into the earth.

With her graduation project, "When Iep Is the World" and her artistic research, "Crawling Out of the Hole," Lisia allows the reader to reflect on their own animal nature. She collaborated with graphic designer Kasper Quaink (https://kasperquaink.nl/). on all the designs. He designed the cover font and also designed the interior.
