“If you’re going to call me a clown, I’m going to be the best clown you’ve ever seen.”
I work from a place of joy. The starting point for me is always to find joy together and to enjoy working together. Whether this is in the classroom or on stage, it doesn't matter to me. I want to explore together with the actors and find something to tell together. I find the conversations I have valuable, and those conversations, in turn, contribute to the performance.
I create from unfairness and social inequality. My ideas arise in moments when I feel angry or very sad. And it is precisely from that anger or sadness that I try to rediscover the lightness and joy. I can get angry about a lot of things in the world, but fortunately, I can laugh at much more.
In the coming years, I want to continue exploring topics that make me angry or sad. I want to find new ways to talk about them. I also hope to work as a theatre teacher to continue discovering the joy of the profession with students.
What tools are available to teachers to promote diversity and inclusion in the classroom? Can these tools be used to adapt lessons and methods to LGBTQ+ topics so that LGBTQ+ students feel understood?
Before my fourth year, I read that acceptance among young people towards the LGBTQ+ community had dropped to below 40%. I was very shocked by this, so I started researching tools or methodologies to make lessons or the rehearsal process as inclusive as possible. I hope this will help me and others increase acceptance and ensure that students and actors feel safe, accepted, and seen.
