"There she is, you can't escape her"—a hyperactive whirlwind with little order in her life.
Jip Pronk's work is colourful, cheerful, warm, a bit animalistic, and always tells a story. She usually doesn't work from a preconceived theme or message, but is guided by a playful, almost childlike energy. Her work reeks of mischief.
In her thesis, "Stimuli, Stimuli, Stimuli," Jip explored how a chaotic individual can better navigate the art world. She discovered that it's not always helpful to step into someone else's shoes. Doing so overlooks the power and value of someone's unique way of experiencing and creating. This thesis became the blueprint for her physical installation, which she'll be exhibiting at the Finals. Using plaster, cardboard, metal, and papier-mâché, she creates cats, dragons, and other creatures. A painting brought to life.
You are witnessing a transformation: the transformation from a lost, chaotic individual to a professional chaotic individual.
