“Innovators of tradition” – that is the credo of ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle. This certainly applies to the graduating students of the Bachelor’s programme in Jazz & Pop.
At ArtEZ Jazz & Pop in Zwolle, you can graduate with your own concert, a performance with existing or original compositions, your own EP, album, release show and much more! From 16 June to 2 July, the ArtEZ Jazz & Pop finals will be held at venues including Poppodium Hedon, Theater Odeon and the Dommerholtzaal in our ArtEZ Conservatory Zwolle.
In recent years, students have immersed themselves in existing repertoire while also pursuing their own artistic development. They have discovered themselves as individuals and as creators. What does that mean at the end of such a programme? What comes of it? A class full of mature and talented musicians who are ready to add colour to society.
At the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, Chaja Donkers learned that her own story can be central to her music. ‘That makes me unique and allows me to remain myself.’ During the concert, the bachelor's student of the Jazz & Pop programme in Zwolle searches for that fragile moment: the transition from stillness to movement. Sometimes you experience something over which you have little control. In her final concert, “Still, I Move”, Chaja Donkers presents a musical triptych about such a situation. In her music, she tells of the loss of control and how she got moving again afterwards.
Take a look at previous Jazz & Pop finals!
- Trumpeter Meike Brandt focused on gender equality in the music industry with her graduation concert ‘Break the Circle’!
- Bassist Brent van Rij showed how he is continuing his career after graduation with his classmates in the post-punk/shoegaze band Helen Jewett, with whom he played at Hedon, participated in Hit the North (ESNS) and recorded their first studio album during his graduation project.
