"Those who fight against the current become exhausted; those who learn to go with the flow stay afloat."
"“Know that if you step into the water with nothing to hold on to and behave as you would on dry land, you will drown. But if, on the other hand, you surrender to the water and let go, you will stay afloat.” – Alan Watts.
These works depict absorption, corrosion and erosion. They explore how interaction with water and the passage of time influence the environment. Whereas glass reflects light like water, wool absorbs it quietly; at first it repels the water, but eventually it surrenders to it. Just as water is constantly changing yet always remains water, so too does life constantly change with time. For me, water symbolises letting go of control. Those who fight the current become exhausted; those who learn to go with the flow stay afloat. Time is elusive, just like water slipping through our fingers.
My fascination with the unseen focuses on the traces left behind by time and water. Within those traces lies a history that evokes appreciation for all that it has endured. It is precisely those small details that are often the first to disappear when we are in a hurry. Perhaps that is precisely where the challenge of existence lies: learning to go with the flow of something greater than ourselves, without becoming rigid or going under."
