In collaboration with Claire Porro, I wrote the essay: Theatre and Rituals as a Space to Become Aware of (Internalised) Sexism. In it, through shared reflections and theoretical research, we explore how we can collectively achieve an embodiment of equality—with an awareness of internalised power structures. As part of this research, we created the performance: Open Space. A glimpse into how we, as women of colour and white women, approached this research. We sought connection without ignoring the differences and inequalities in our positions.
Looking back on my years of study, I can confidently say that I am an interdisciplinary maker. I came to the program with two degrees under my belt: dance teacher and fashion (business). My interdisciplinarity extends from an assertive intrinsic motivation to continue learning. By seeing myself as a 'leading learner' and 'learning leader,' I always encounter opportunities for growth and am never done playing.
An Artist Educator in Theatre is someone who creates, teaches, and connects through theatre. You are both on stage and off stage, moving between creating, guiding, and questioning.
As an Artist Educator, I act as a bridge between artist and audience, between individual and society, between the personal and the political. My projects often arise from aesthetics and social themes. They seek a connection with the world of the participants. I believe that theatre can be most transformative precisely in that in-between space—where art and education intersect.
Aesthetics is like a gigantic void for me, from which I can constantly draw. Not only visually, but also in how forms, sounds, rhythms, and images combine to create meaning—a movement, a colour combination, a quiet moment on the street. Philosophy, literature, and conversations with people also inform my work. I'm fascinated by how something looks, but especially by what lies beneath; what it says about humanity, about structures, about desire. I also seek this layering in my own projects.
I'm always rebelling. I don't think I'll ever stop.
