The beauty myth supposedly concerns intimacy, sex, and life, a glorification of women, but in reality consists of emotional distance, politics, money, and sexual repression. The beauty myth isn't about women at all, but about men and power.

I spent almost the entire length of my studies researching how I could attempt to break through beauty ideals through imagery. I primarily explored how I could desexualise the body, but something still didn't feel entirely honest. I wanted to question the beauty ideal, even though I wasn't ready for it in my own daily life. I was showing something in my work that I couldn't convincingly demonstrate to myself: that I'm allowed to simply be. That very dilemma is what my work is now about.

Through my own beauty routine, I contradict my desire to break through the beauty ideal. I've therefore translated this into a performance. In this performance, and along with my other works, I explore, among other things, seeking identity in matter and associated overconsumption, performative femininity, influencers and "self-help" gurus, and being your own voyeur.
