“BEELDEN BOUWEN BPM”

Als ontwerper richt ik mij op het visueel versterken van muziek en de muzikale identiteit. Als STUDIO ELLENDE ontwikkel ik kleurrijke, verhalende ontwerpen die aansluiten bij de wereld van muzikanten en hun publiek. Mijn werk draait om storytelling – het vertalen van klank en karakter naar beeld, zodat muziek niet alleen gehoord, maar ook gezien en gevoeld wordt.

Voor mijn afstudeerproject werkte ik samen met de improvisatie-techno band Kronische Vermoeidheid. Hun veranderlijke analoge synthesizerklanken vormden de basis voor een installatie waarin beeld, geluid en ruimte samenkomen. Centraal staat een mythisch verhaal over bouwen en creëren – en wat er gebeurt wanneer we dat proces uit handen geven aan machines. 

De installatie is eerder uitgevoerd tijdens een live-evenement, en is ontworpen als een modulair systeem die zich aanpast aan de ruimte, van festivals tot kelders of poppodia. Het publiek wordt uitgenodigd om mee te bouwen aan het decor, waardoor de set voortdurend verandert, net als de muziek. Een levend geheel van geluid, beeld en beweging. Tijdens de gehele Finals expositie zijn de beelden te zien van het live-evenement.

BUILDING IMAGES BPM

As a designer, I focus on visually enhancing music and musical identity. As STUDIO ELLENDE, I develop colourful, narrative designs that connect with the world of musicians and their audiences. My work revolves around storytelling—translating sound and character into images, so that music is not only heard, but also seen and felt.

For my graduation project, I collaborated with the improvisational techno band Krnische Vermoeidheid. Their changing analogue synthesiser sounds formed the basis for an installation that merges image, sound, and space. At its core is a mythical story about building and creating—and what happens when we hand that process over to machines.

The installation, which has previously been performed at a live event, is designed as a modular system that adapts to any space, from festivals to basements or pop venues. The audience is invited to participate in the set's construction, meaning the set constantly changes, just like the music. A living entity of sound, image, and movement. Throughout the Finals exhibition, images from the live event will be on display.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ellen van Scheers is a visual artist and storyteller with a passion for music and performance. In her work, she explores ways to make music visually tangible—not by literally illustrating, but by translating atmosphere, colour, and rhythm into images. She combines graphic design, scenography, and installation art into a single experiential world in which the audience is actively involved.

Under the name STUDIO ELLENDE, she gives musicians a visual identity that matches their sound and character. Her style is colourful, graphic, and idiosyncratic—always serving the story that needs to be told. She believes that images can do just as much as sound: disrupt, touch, move, and inspire movement.
