Invisible yet ever-present. The hidden side of ADHD

My name is Denise Boeijink, I’m 24 years old, and I had the opportunity to create my
final project at the Maagjesbolwerk building in Zwolle. The theme is “Reflect,” with the overarching theme of Neurodiversity -> ADHD. Maagjesbolwerk is located on Jufferwal, near Rodetorenplein and Melkmarkt. I will be focusing on the front left section near the second entrance to the shopping center, where there is a restaurant on the left.

What is Neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity means that the brain functions differently. People with neurodiversity learn differently and process information differently. Examples include: ADHD, ADD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, High Sensitivity, or Tourette’s Syndrome. This leads to differences in thinking and learning processes, information and sensory processing,
and how individuals experience the world.

In this project, I focused specifically on ADHD because the broader topic of neurodivergence is too vast to cover comprehensively, and because I know many people with ADHD in my circle who are still not always understood. Strengths associated with ADHD include being creative, hyperfocus, and solutionoriented thinking. Weaknesses include attention issues, being disorganized, or difficulty with planning.

Another aspect is that they often hear negative or corrective comments at a young age, which makes them feel like they don’t measure up or don’t belong. A place where you can experience what it’s like to have the hidden side of ADHD. The aspects that are rarely or almost never discussed are addressed.Feeling small – Masking [pretending to be someone else] – Hyperfocus.
