Abel Dijkstra

Abel Dijkstra graduates with a comic book and an exhibition of papier-mâché sculptures. Abel explores how you can say a lot with very little. The comic is about two brothers with very large heads in a car without a roof.

Abel starts by making objects and sculptures before he starts drawing. In this way, his comics become a representation of what came before, and Abel draws with great honesty, even though he then lies about everything. He lets you guess who, where and how, but teases you with perfect timing and clever dialogue, and it's funny too.

HERE'S YOUR HEAD puts two brothers side by side who would rather be funny than vulnerable. 
They're not really in a car, and they can smack each other's heads.
Abel has put together an exhibition with loving sculptures that broadly tell the story of his book. It is a sequence in figurines. 
The large heads are part of the exhibition, and if you are a visitor, be sure to put them on. The creation of these two is what ultimately brought the book to life. First there were heads, then there was a book.

Abel is delighted to be graduating from ArtEZ Comic Design and is grateful to his programme and teachers for a fruitful and stimulating learning environment in which he felt seen and was given the space to discover his creative process.
