Mako & Wazungu: Beyond a Perspective

I was two years old when we moved to Uganda. They called me Mzungu (white person) and I called them Mako (the name of a Kenyan family friend), that was my way of acknowledging their dark skin. When my parents told me I was getting an Ugandan sister they said, “Ies je krijgt een Mako baby zusje!”

So we’re Mako & Wazungu.

In this audio-visual experience, I want to encourage the viewer to explore different sides of the story that we tell. For a story to be understood, it needs to be heard from more than one perspective.
