For Dance Artist graduate Olle Arrhenius, dance is about making connections. With an audience, with other dancers and with the people they create work with. 'When I perform, I want to reach people. To say something, or simply to be present with other people.' During four years at ArtEZ, Olle developed their own artistic voice. An internship at Skånes Dansteater in Sweden brought that development into professional practice.
Olle was young and full of energy when they started Dance Artist. During the programme, they grew as a dancer, both artistically and technically. Creating their own work played an important role in this development. Students create a solo in their first year, followed by a duet in their second year.
Through choreography, Olle discovered more about their own way of working. Collaborating with and learning from others became equally important. Many different voices and perspectives come together within Dance Artist. This exchange helped Olle find their own place as a maker and dancer.
In the fourth year, students choose how they want to gain experience in the professional field. Olle did an internship at Skånes Dansteater in Sweden. There, they took part in several professional productions, including a large-scale opera production.
The internship was intense and challenging. At the same time, Olle had the opportunity to work alongside professional dancers and experience the everyday reality of working in a dance company.
As graduation approaches, Olle takes away more than artistic and professional experience. During the programme, they built an international community of friends and makers. Those connections remain as Olle moves towards their next step.
