Graduation concert Master Jazz & Pop: mix of jazz, classical, and pop music

Joey Vos completes the master Jazz & Pop Master's programme in Zwolle with a composition he wrote himself. In a video he tells us more about his experiences: “In this composition I would like to show people what I’ve learned. What my personal mix of the jazz world, the classical world, and the pop world is. And everything around it. It’s quite a special moment for me. Because a year ago, I never expected that I would be doing something like this.”
“I started this master’s course because I thought that I wasn’t done learning. And this has to do with the fact that I went to the Pop Academy in Amsterdam. I did nothing with jazz music at my time there. And I thought that this experience was necessary to become a more versatile musician. So, this was my goal the last two years.” Joey says that he appreciated that the first year of the course wasn’t focused on doing research, but on music. He felt that this gave him the chance to take his time and think about in which direction he wants to go as a musician.
The jazz department also has group lessons with the classical music department. And the collaboration with the master’s students Classical Music was of great value to Joey: “I think that I was a bit wrong with my stereotypical thinking about the classical music musicians. There are a lot of things they’re doing so well that we, as jazz and pop students, can learn from.”
The two-year English-language Master Jazz & Pop in Zwolle has more than merely traditional subjects, you get practice-oriented and pragmatic education.
