Can robotics carry the rhythm, fragility and elegance of natural systems? Graduate of Product Design, Thies Mensink, explores the shifting boundary between humans, nature and technology in Simulacra Physis.
“The future of design is interdisciplinary.”
In his work, Thies shows that technology doesn’t have to create distance. It can also open up new perspectives. He explores what happens when the worlds of nature and technology merge, and how that changes our ideas of life, agency and beauty.
Thies works across disciplines: together with a former ArtEZ student and specialist in software and hardware, he brought his installation to life. “The future of design is interdisciplinary,” he says. “Many fields depend on each other to create new things.”
With Simulacra Physis, Thies invites us to see technology not as something to fear, but as something to embrace. As a source of curiosity and connection.
