#MusicRevolution: a unique insight into the music industry

Producing music with professionals from the music industry: that is what the new pilot project #MusicRevolution in the Bachelor of Jazz & Pop in Zwolle is all about. For a week, a group of students immersed themselves in the world of the music production industry. Koen Gardebroek, drummer and Jazz & Pop student, is an ambassador for the pilot and is very enthusiastic: "With #MusicRevolution, you, as a student, can already get a unique insight into the field, into the realities of the music industry in which we will soon find ourselves!"
During the pilot, young talented musicians from Deltion, ArtEZ Jazz & Pop, and de Fakkelteit went into the studio together with the Hedon Production House. "It was an interesting group that had a nice combination of many different disciplines. The challenge was to connect with everyone and to make an awesome end product together. I produced a few beats and did some drumming here and there. I also got the chance to walk around and check out the different studios of Beatbox, a laboratory and place for developing young talents in the field of songwriting, performance, and music production. In total, about twenty songs were produced, with some really cool ones."
Preparations for entering the field
"To be successful in the music field later on, it is important to be involved in projects like this. In #MusicRevolution, you learn how to record yourself and what it's like to work with different musicians, among other things. When you always work on music alone or with the same person, it is quite beneficial to work collaboratively in a different way than you’re used to. If you start working with people you don't know, things may be unpredictable or not run as smoothly, and that can be a great lesson. Exclusively working with your “own” people is an unrealistic expectation for what you will experience as a professional in the musical field."
Drummer & producer
Koen is in his third year of the Jazz & Pop course. He is a drummer, plays in several bands, and does a lot of studio work. "My goal is to have my own studio. That way, I could produce music for others as well as for my own band, and I could do some session work from time to time. Above all, I just want to create a lot, for many different people and musical cultures. Because of #MusicRevolution, I'm even more steadfast in this goal than I already was."
