You are between 17 and 25 years old and want to find out whether art education is right for you. Pre-Academy Art & Design can be easily combined with a gap year and part-time job. You will attend workshops such as screen printing, laser cutting and photography, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the workshops. If you do not have a HAVO or MBO4 diploma, this route allows you to take both the 21+ test and the entrance exam for one of the bachelor's programmes at the ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Arnhem. During this preparatory course, you will discover which programme suits you best.
Pre-Academy Art & Design lasts 26 weeks, spread over 7 months. You will have two days of classes at the academy each week. You will also work on assignments at home one day a week. The programme consists of two parts:
The lessons are generally thematic and focus on the nature and content of visual arts education. You will be given assignments in areas such as Perception, Imagination, Design, Research, Interactive and Theory. You will be introduced to a number of workshops and visit museums.
During this second period, teaching takes the form of workshops. These are work-oriented and/or thematic and tie in with current developments in the field of art & design.
During the final weeks, you will spend a number of days shadowing/working in a department of your choice. You will gain insight into the education system, learn about the requirements and see what facilities are available in the workshops.
During Pre-Academy Art & Design, your work and development will be regularly evaluated by the supervising teachers. Assessments take place at the end of each course component. In addition, there are two assessment moments during which students exhibit all their work.
Would you like to continue at ArtEZ? Pre-Academy Art & Design prepares you well for the bachelor's programmes. You are not automatically admitted, but you can apply for admission during this preparatory course.
