If you enjoy collaborative dance, and are curious to see if training to become a dance teacher is right for you, the DansLAEB preparatory programme for the Artisteducator in Dance Education is a great choice! An inspiring programme spread out over 24 Saturdays, this training offers you the opportunity to learn, experience, explore and exchange ideas
This course is for you if you:
At DansLAEB, we challenge you to expand your creative possibilities. You will be given the space and guidance to work toward your personal learning goals. Together with your fellow students, you will experiment, create and share insights with each other. That spirit of collaboration is what makes this preparatory programme so special and enjoyable - you are moving, learning and exploring together!
The curriculum consists of the components training, researching, and presenting. More information is provided below.
In various training classes, we challenge you to work on a range of artistic topics, including:
In improvisation and composition classes, we will provide you with the tools to create choreographies. At the same time, you will learn more about community learning and how to grow together as a group.
Every Saturday, you will experience what it is like to be involved in dance all day long, both physically and mentally. You will gain knowledge and experience in how to train your body as a dancer during intensive training and what you might need personally as a creative artist. By creating and performing dance, you will become familiar with the world of theatre and dance. You will be introduced to the various aspects of the profession of an Artisteducator in Dance (both professional roles and career profiles). You will also begin to explore different perspectives on dance and dance education. Throughout all of this, you will gain a better understanding of where your interests lie.
By conducting research in dance, you will learn who you want to become as an artist and a dancer. Various classes will teach you research methods, but self-reflection also plays a part in the process. You will examine questions such as:
Your personal coach will help you formulate your own research questions and guide you through the process and your next steps.
From the beginning of the programme, performing your own work or presenting your research is your focus. We call these presentation moments "shared spaces." As a community, we learn from each other's processes and give each other "feedforward" (as opposed to feedback). You will also have the opportunity to share your newly acquired dance knowledge with an audience, such as during an Open Day or the Community Days.
You will conclude DansLAEB with a performance of your own solo or choreographies.
You do not need to audition to participate in DansLAEB. However, we would like to see that you already have some dance experience, or experience with a dynamic sport such as capoeira or gymnastics.
