Werkplaats Typografie encourages designers to venture into new territories – to discover, rediscover and refine their professional identity as creators. Participants turn personal questions into universal ones and approach the world with a critical and reflective mindset.
Applying for the Werkplaats Typografie master’s programme? These are the requirements:
- a bachelor’s degree in art or a related field;
- a distinctive personal portfolio.
In addition, the quality of your work (both in content and design), your ability to work independently, your potential for further development and your engaged attitude towards design are all taken into account.
Language requirements apply to all ArtEZ master’s programmes. You must submit a certificate of English proficiency before 1 September.

Your portfolio should be a PDF document containing no more than twenty projects, such as books, digital work, invitations, posters, identities or sketches. Maximum file size: 60 MB. Include around five images per project, each with a short description (max. 50 words).
Please attach a separate document including:
- your CV (mentioning your nationality for our records);
- a brief description of your plans and expectations for your time at Werkplaats Typografie and a short introduction of yourself as a designer.
You can send your portfolio to mail@werkplaatstypografie.org or upload it via an external server such as WeTransfer.
All portfolios are reviewed in March. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview in May.
Selected candidates are invited for an interview with the Werkplaats Typografie lecturers. Please bring your work to the interview. During the conversation, you will discuss your work, plans, intentions and expectations for your studies at Werkplaats Typografie. The interviews take place in March.
