The HOME OF PERFORMANCE PRACTICES centres on contemporary performance practice and critical thinking. The work you create and your reflective analyses determine your progress throughout all modules of the programme. At the Home of Performance Practices, a diverse range of discipline-specific teaching methods is employed, reflecting the variety and expertise of the faculty.
Reflective practice and critical reflection on the interaction between theory and practice are key to refining your learning process. You will develop a critical and creative understanding of the various forms, methodologies, and processes within the field of contemporary performance. You engage in this process through lectures, group discussions, and seminar presentations with feedback from lecturers and peers, as well as through oral and written responses to essays and presentations, artist workshops, work-in-progress and final presentations, and the development of portfolios and personal websites or blogs. Guest artists and lecturers are regularly invited to share their practice with you, in alignment with the structure of the programme.
You work individually and in groups to develop and investigate both influential and personal approaches to choreography and facilitation. You analyse texts and create performances, presentations, documentation, and essays.
The programme follows a low-residency, high-intensity model, with on-site periods devoted to studio practice, workshops, lectures, and mentoring sessions. This setup has three goals:
(a) experience what it’s like to learn and work in circumstances comparable to an artist residency;
(b) create a focused and concentrated learning environment;
(c) enable artists and professionals to take part, even if they cannot be physically present for weekly classes and seminars.
During the programme, you work alongside artists, theorists, and art educators in diverse settings such as workshops, seminars, international residencies, field trips, and research labs.
