Why the Master Music Therapy?

If you are a musician or music therapist looking to strengthen your music therapy practice through research, then this master’s programme may be the right fit for you. Perhaps you want to focus on elder care or mental health, or you are exploring the broader applications of music in neonatal care and intensive care settings.

As a musician, music educator or music therapist, you have firsthand experience of how music can make a real difference in people’s lives. The demand for music therapy and music-based interventions in healthcare is only increasing, which is why we offer you the advanced competencies you need to take the lead in this promising field.

Study and work in an international environment

You will have ample opportunity to collaborate with and learn from both national and international lecturers, experienced professionals and guest teachers. You will become part of a unique Music Therapy department, with a bachelor’s programme, pre-Master’s programme, master’s programme and a professorship in Music Therapy all under one roof.

Deepen your understanding of neuroscience and music

This master’s programme is known for its strong focus on neuroscience, providing you with an in-depth foundation into the science behind music therapy. You will work closely with other students across the Academy of Music and explore the latest music technologies and their relevance to music therapy.

Develop your own professional pathway

You will design a personal study plan that supports your professional and personal growth within the specialisation of your choice. You will participate in community therapy projects and conduct research into music therapy and cultural sensitivity.

I chose the Master Music Therapy because I worked as a music therapist in a nursing home for people living with dementia and with adults with physical disabilities. I wanted to deepen my understanding of what music therapy could mean for them.
