As a master’s student in Music Therapy, you will receive high-level training from national and international expert clinicians, professors and guest lecturers. The programme collaborates with a wide range of national and international medical, healthcare and educational institutions, NGOs and research partners.
During the ArtEZ Master of Music Therapy, the focus is on your musical competencies, professional and personal development, scientific and innovative thinking, professionalism, collaboration and cultural sensitivity. Throughout the programme, you will reflect on – and research – your identity as a music therapist and your leadership skills. Which of these do you most identify with?
The Master of Music Therapy offers you the opportunity to explore music from multiple perspectives, enabling you to develop and innovate music therapy interventions. Through music technology or interdisciplinary artistic research projects with students from other ArtEZ master’s programmes, you can further strengthen your passion for innovation.
Specialised yet flexible knowledge, the ability to respond to clients’ needs, and the capacity to envision the layered development of the profession: these are advanced skills that are crucial for music therapists who wish to specialise and deepen their expertise in a specific clinical area, approach, population or research question.
Music and music therapy are powerful tools for building, empowering and strengthening communities. Community Music Therapy aims to enhance people’s wellbeing by bringing them together, always with careful attention to their (cultural) background and social needs. Community builders use music in group and social contexts and seek ways to harness the impact of music – and the sustainability of projects – to create greater social justice. Some of our students have carried out music therapy projects with different communities in the Netherlands, Germany, Lesbos, Greece, Sudan and Romania.
Digna Huinink's graduation project offers an inspiring example of Community Music Therapy. You can watch a video about her work below.
