Research is at the heart of this master’s programme. Under individual supervision, you will set up an original research project on the effect of music in general and music therapy in particular on a specific population. This project could consist of a feasibility study, a music therapy project for the community, innovative interventions or a literature review. Your research supervisor will support you in designing and conducting your research and in communicating your findings.
You will learn more about music-based research in study groups. You will be aided by our networks encompassing the ArtEZ Music-Based Therapies and Interventions professorship, universities, NGOs and healthcare institutions, which are all at your disposal.
You will also write an article and give presentations. This will teach you how to present your results. You will learn how to explain and defend your work to professional music therapists and members of other health-related professions. Your research will make a real and positive contribution to the fields of music therapy, healthcare and, ultimately, human health in general.
We cordially invite you to visit our annual Master of Music Therapy symposium and listen to our graduates' presentations to gain a more complete impression of this aspect of the programme.

This programme offers weekly music therapy sessions for people with Parkinson’s disease. Our students actively participate in these sessions to train their advanced clinical skills.
Thanks to this programme, I now speak the language of the people in my field, such as doctors, psychologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. I can see the common ground more clearly and substantiate my ideas more easily. This improves collaboration between us.
