Master of Music - Master - Zwolle

What you'll learn

In the Master of Music in Zwolle, you will refine your artistic signature and your role in the world around you. You will learn to frame, explain and perform your artistic choices with confidence. In the Performance Lab, you will work in cycles on new projects – developing, presenting and refining – with constructive feedback from lecturers, guest makers and fellow students. You will translate your ideas into formats that fit the place and purpose, and practise clear framing for audiences and partners.

Artistic research is the driving force behind your development. You will formulate questions, choose suitable methods and connect your findings directly to your practice – on stage and in your documentation (from scores and annotations to audio or video recordings). You will also learn to collaborate within the master’s programme and with regional partners, gain stage experience and develop a professional language for your work – from programme notes and artist statements to conversations with programmers.

Specifically, you will learn to:

  • deepen your craft – technique, interpretation and sound conception – and apply it in meaningful formats;
  • design programmes from artistic urgency and explain your artistic choices clearly;
  • shape presentation and audience engagement – stage presence, theatricality, context and timing;
  • collaborate effectively in different constellations and roles, with clear agreements and feedback rounds;
  • document and share your work so that your development becomes visible and transferable.

Through this, you will develop an independent, context-aware practice that is artistically coherent, practically feasible and capable of reaching both existing and new audiences.
