Illustration Based Narrative - Master - Zwolle

Programme per year

The first year offers a mix of compulsory core modules and specialised elective modules within different themes of Illustration Based Narrative.

Core modules (30 EC):

The compulsory core modules provide a solid theoretical, ethical and practical foundation.

Elective modules (30 EC):

You will choose modules that specifically connect to your research project. These modules offer depth in the narrative use of image and in visual storytelling. You will choose two modules that match your research project and research method.

The second year focuses on in-depth research and specialisation within the graduation project. Through research, you work towards an exhibition.

Specialisation route:

You choose a specialisation route that matches your interest in Illustration Based Narrative. Within this specialisation, you will choose a focus for the graduation project.

  • Image: Focus on storytelling through image creation and visual communication, with attention to techniques such as illustration, animation and graphic design.
  • Narrative: Explore telling complex stories through images, with emphasis on storytelling technique and narrative choices.
  • Research: Research into illustration and narrative, visual or otherwise, in theoretical and applied contexts.

Graduation project and exhibition

The key element of the second year is the graduation project. You will work independently on a research project, both visual and written text, that brings together your knowledge, theory, vision and skills. The final project is presented during a public exhibition.
