Education in Arts - part-time - Master - Zwolle

What you'll learn

Artisteducator – one word, multiple identities, endless possibilities

This master’s programme will teach you to find balance – between engagement and critical distance, between vision and reflection, between the desire to understand and the courage to let things remain open-ended.

Within the programme, the roles of teacher, artist, and researcher are deeply intertwined – each enriching and reinforcing the other.

The Master of Education in Arts offers an inspiring environment in which you can grow in your role as an artist educator – within an interdisciplinary community of students, (guest) lecturers, tutors, and partners. You will engage in field research and develop a deep understanding of critical pedagogy, arts-based research, and (educational) philosophy. You will develop as an agent of change, gaining even greater strength in your roles as teacher, artist, and researcher.

Arts-based research

The focus of the Master of Education in Arts is on arts-based research: various research methods are combined to explore and address an issue from multiple perspectives. By approaching your topic from different angles, you will combine the best of both worlds – often leading to unexpected and valuable results.

Research forms the foundation of all master’s programmes at ArtEZ. As a master’s student in Education in Arts, research is a constant part of your work – it underpins your position and activities within the professional field of art education. The programme helps you build your research skills, using your own research question or theme as a starting point.

The gap between theory and artistic practice has become much smaller. My interests in science and art have come together, and I now have the confidence to take a clearer stance.
