Master of Music - Master - Zwolle

Research

To prepare for an as-yet-unknown future, you need more than craftsmanship alone. That is why artistic research is a core part of the Master of Music in Zwolle. You will conduct research from within your own practice, so that your artistic choices – on stage and in your curatorial work – are well-founded and intentional. Your research will start from a concrete artistic question – about repertoire, performance, audience or context – and lead to new work, fitting formats or refined working methods.

At ArtEZ, research grows naturally from your artistic practice. You will connect sources and methods to what you create and perform, documenting the choices you make, why you make them and which alternatives you consider.

You will present your findings in forms that strengthen your practice – a concert or performance, a score or annotations, a podcast, video or audio essay, a website or a concise written publication. With guidance from your lecturers and research coaches, you will work towards a master’s project in which performance, curatorial context and research visibly come together. The goal: to create knowledge in and through music – and to expand your artistic impact.
